2011 Art Project #5 Cosmo's Tuft

Title: Cosmo's Tuft
D. Sketch
Date: January, 2011

This was my second abstract painting with brown and white, then I added the black and red which was exactly what was needed. This inspired me to go back and complete the painting which ended up being "Into the Woods/Out of the Woods". My dear friend, Janine, inspired the title, which was inspired by Cosmo, the Wonder Dog, who as a red tri-colored Australian Shepherd, has similar colors.

Again, the detail of this work came out better than the whole. So, that's all I'm sharing.

I am including a shot that shows the details too. I actually like that part better than the whole...on the computer screen. I am realizing that it's hard to capture the art just right with a camera.

Originally, this was a simple abstract of brown and white, but looking unfinished, I added the black and red framing. Then the people appeared.

This is another 5x7 acrylic painting. A friend said it looks like a "happy Jackson Pollock". If I hadn't already titled it, that would have been the title!

Free Preview of DIA's "Fakes, Forgery, and Mysteries" at the Berkley Library Jan 11, 2011

I just love, love, LOVE free stuff - especially about art. I found this through this week's email from the City of Berkley. You, too can sign up for a free email from the city HERE.

Library Corner

On Tuesday, January 11 at 7:00 pm the library will offer a preview of the Detroit Institute of Arts’ new exhibit, “Fakes, Forgery, and Mysteries.” The exhibition highlights some of the mistakes and other discoveries made through the years regarding artist attribution, authenticity, and value of works in the DIA’s collection. It illustrates how the DIA constantly re-assesses artworks through research, science, and technology, revealing an aspect of the museum’s work rarely seen by the public. Space is limited so advance registration is required. Call the library at 248-658-3440 to register. This program is presented by the Friends of the Library.

Ok, so technically, this was taken in 2010 and Ron helped by doing the Warhol coloring as per my prompting. But I'm counting this as 2011 Art Project #1.
